The movie directed by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland is currently showing in theaters.
Released on June 23, 2025, the soundtrack for '28 Years Later (The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)' by the Scottish trio Young Fathers, winners of the Mercury Prize, is now available through Milan Records.
This 24-track compilation features original compositions by the Scottish band, providing an immersive and intense soundtrack for the post-apocalyptic horror film from Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle and Oscar-nominated writer Alex Garland.
Young Fathers leverage their dynamic synergy and versatile musical style to create a blend of vocal and instrumental tracks, merging raw lo-fi textures, distinctive chants, and haunting harmonics with energetic percussion and intricate synth arrangements.
The outcome is a captivating soundscape that powerfully conveys the ominous atmosphere of the film while resonating with the emotional story of a family struggling to survive.
Regarding the decision to enlist Young Fathers for the soundtrack, director Danny Boyle states, “The genre-defying, instinctive sound of Young Fathers is perfectly aligned with the universe of 28 Years Later. They have created a musical environment that infuses the visuals with a raw, primal energy, while also imbuing a world that is both terrifying and uniquely beautiful with heart and humanity.”
28 Years Later serves as an “auteur horror” narrative set in the realm established by 28 Days Later, which debuted in 2002. Nearly thirty years have passed since the rage virus was released from a biological weapons facility, and amidst a strict quarantine, some individuals have managed to survive alongside the infected.
One group of survivors resides on a small island linked to the mainland through a heavily fortified causeway. When one member embarks on a mission to the perilous inner mainland, he uncovers secrets, wonders, and terrors that have transformed not only the infected but other survivors as well.
Presented by Columbia Pictures, 28 Years Later is now playing in theaters.
