Listen to the new single "starburn."
Experimental duo Crushed – formed by Bre Morell and Shaun Durkan – will unveil their debut album "no scope" on September 26th.
Released through Ghostly International, this twelve-track compilation follows their buzzworthy debut project "extra life," which came out last year. That project included the track "waterlily," which was remixed by Real Lies, and "milksugar," remixed by DJ Python.
The duo presents a glimpse of the upcoming album with the single "starburn" – a song filled with dynamic sonic transitions, relaxed breakbeat segments, oceanic guitar nuances, and their characteristic hook-laden interplay.
Regarding the new single, Durkan explains: “starburn is about finding hope in moments of despair. I was contemplating how I’ve lived my life, how I’ve utilized my time, and the desperation I’ve felt for it all to culminate into something deserving of the sacrifices I’ve made – a stable job, family, my overall health, and so on. I feared I’d spent my life fruitlessly searching for satisfaction or self-worth in the wrong areas, perhaps missing an important turn along the way. The song expresses a longing for divine intervention or a stroke of cosmic luck to help me feel that my life could eventually hold meaning before fear and regret take control.”
Morell and Durkan began recording tracks for "no scope" remotely, alternating between their homes and co-producer/mixer Jorge Elbrecht’s place – marking a first for them after mostly self-producing their earlier efforts.
More a culmination than a debut, "no scope" delves into the duo’s evolving synergy, broadening their sonic range to include trip-hop, Britpop, electronica, and ’90s alternative radio influences.
"starburn" comes with a music video directed by Luke Orlando. Check it out below.
