CHVRCHES took the stage for their first live show in two years last night (June 30th).
The Glasgow synth-pop band had been relatively quiet recently, with lead singer Lauren Mayberry releasing a fantastic solo album last year.
Out of the blue, CHVRCHES made a return by performing a surprise set in London.
They appeared at the launch event for the highly anticipated video game Death Stranding 2: On The Beach at Here at Outernet, where they spoke onstage and played live for the first time since 2023.
Caroline Polachek, who wrote and performed the main song for the new game, opened the show before host Geoff Keighley announced a surprise: “This is something really special. This band hasn’t performed together in two years, and tonight they’re here to play a song that means a lot to all of us who love Death Stranding.”
Following that, CHVRCHES delivered a live performance, and the band even makes an appearance in the new game as NPCs working for the We Love Animals organization.
Lauren Mayberry shared a screenshot from the game on her Instagram, writing: “Hello from us in Death Stranding 2.”
“It’s a true honor and a secret we had to keep for a long time. Thanks once again, Hideo Kojima.”
After the performance, CHVRCHES chatted briefly with Keighley and game creator Hideo Kojima, during which they confirmed that—drum roll!—a new album is on the way.
