London musician Babo Moreno has announced the release of his debut album.
The artist and composer, who goes by Fabio De Oliveira, is a prominent figure in London’s jazz scene. A child prodigy, he has become a highly sought-after session musician, capable of touring internationally with George Ezra’s band and well-known in jam sessions for his versatile playing style.
With deep roots in Brazilian culture—being the son of the renowned percussionist Bosco De Oliveira, who founded the London School of Samba—Babo Moreno integrates this heritage with modern UK jazz influences.
His debut album is set to be released on September 26th, accompanied by the vibrant new single ‘Bicho Preguiça (The Sloth)’ which is available now.
Here’s a message from Babo Moreno…
This record represents my quest to find my voice, not only musically but also culturally. Growing up in London as the son of Brazilian immigrants has placed me between two worlds. This album serves as a love letter to both cultures. It is infused with the rhythms and essence of Brazil while being molded by London’s vibrant energy and the diverse global music scene I have been a part of.
Every second-generation immigrant possesses a distinct mix of cultures, each of us taking in various aspects from our heritage and the environment we grow up in. Although our experiences are unique, we are connected by a mutual understanding of what it’s like to navigate that in-between space. For me, making sense of this fusion has been a personal journey that has influenced how I perceive myself and the world. This album reflects that experience, showcasing themes of identity, growth, and the beauty of straddling multiple cultures.
I created this for individuals like me—second-generation, navigating between cultures—seeking to hold onto something that feels like home, even as it constantly evolves.
