The Last Dinner Party is set to release their sophomore album, ‘From The Pyre’, on October 17th through Island Records.
The BRIT award-winning quintet from London entered the studio at the beginning of the year alongside Grammy-winning producer Markus Dravs (known for his work with Wolf Alice, Florence & The Machine, and Bjork) to create the follow-up to their chart-topping debut album, ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’, released in 2023.
‘From The Pyre’ embodies a playful and whimsical spirit while delving into the theme of modern heartache portrayed as mythical desolation. It reflects the maturity and development of the band as they have spent countless months on the road.
The Last Dinner Party states:
“This album is a compilation of narratives, bound together by the concept of album-as-mythos. ‘The Pyre’ serves as an allegorical origin of these stories, representing a site of destruction and violence, but also of renewal, passion, and illumination.
“The tracks are driven by characters yet remain intensely personal, depicting ordinary life events taken to an exaggerated extreme. Being ghosted transforms into a Western-style showdown with a killer, and heartbreak mocks the looming apocalypse. The lyrics bring forth images of rifles, scythes, sailors, saints, cowboys, floods, Mother Earth, Joan of Arc, and raging fires. We discovered that this kind of vivid imagery provided an honest and genuine way to express how our experiences felt, granting each moment the emotional significance it deserves.”
“This album strikes a darker tone, feeling more raw and grounded; it captures a perspective overlooking a breathtaking landscape rather than being seated at a lavish table. It also carries a metatextual and playful quality in parts, reminiscent of a knowing glance at ourselves.”
Accompanying the album announcement is the release of the first single, ‘This Is The Killer Speaking’. Listen below.
