The Last Dinner Party is back! The London-based quintet has returned today with a stunning new single titled ‘This Is The Killer Speaking’ - the first release from their recently announced and highly anticipated second album ‘From The Pyre’. Set to be released on October 17 through Island Records, this new LP follows their chart-topping debut ‘Prelude To Ecstasy’, which came out just over eighteen months ago. Recorded with Grammy-winning producer Markus Dravs (known for his work with Wolf Alice, Florence & The Machine, and Bjork), ‘From The Pyre’ has been described by the band as “a collection of stories, with the concept of album-as-mythos connecting them.” They further elaborate: “‘The Pyre’ serves as an allegorical place where these narratives emerge, representing both violence and destruction, as well as regeneration, passion, and light.
The songs are driven by characters yet remain deeply personal, depicting common life events taken to a pathological extreme. Ghosting transforms into a Western dance with a killer, while heartbreak confronts the apocalypse with laughter. The lyrics reference rifles, scythes, sailors, saints, cowboys, floods, Mother Earth, Joan of Arc, and raging infernos. We found this vivid imagery to be the most honest way to express how our experiences felt, giving each moment the emotional weight it warrants. This album feels somewhat darker, more raw, and more grounded; it unfolds against the backdrop of a breathtaking landscape instead of at a lavish table. It also carries a self-aware and playful tone in parts, reflecting a knowing glance back at ourselves.”
