“I aspire to build a community of like-minded individuals to support quality music and have a great time,” says Fejká, a veteran in the EDM industry who recently established a new label named Coexist, aimed at promoting local musical talent and community events. It’s commendable that he’s providing opportunities for emerging artists, as he once received a similar chance himself. Born Brian Zajak, Fejká spent much of his childhood in Stuttgart, Germany, where he explored various creative pursuits, including photography, filmmaking, and skateboarding. He eventually dived into electronic music production, creating tracks with home software as a teenager. One key figure who took notice was Christian Löffler, a prominent German techno artist, who was so impressed by Fejká's early track “Moonlight” that he invited him to join his Ki Records label.

Fejká’s ‘Azur’ was released on April 25, 2025. He remained with Ki Records for many years, where he launched several of his initial full-length projects, including Reunion and Hiareth. Now out, Azur marks his first release under the new Coexist label. The 10-track album showcases Fejká's extensive experience in electronic music production and integrates his passions for both music and nature.

Having grown up near the Black Forest in Germany, Fejká is an avid hiker. The blue azur flower he encountered during a hike became an inspiration for the album’s title. He has frequently traveled to the Canary Islands, where he crafted much of Azur, drawing inspiration from the islands' stunning landscapes. This backdrop is also featured in the music video for the track “Maara,” highlighting Fejká at the scenic cliffs of Spain, visibly content while playing the keyboard.

In this interview with Atwood Magazine, Fejká discusses his impressions of the Azur album, the ongoing tour, the Coexist label, and more.

      A CONVERSATION WITH FEJká

This interview has been lightly edited for brevity and clarity.

Atwood Magazine: How did your journey in music begin? What led you to become a DJ and producer?

Fejká: I’ve always had a passion for creativity. I recall doing photography at 12. My real journey began at 16 when I got my first laptop and started exploring the Internet, particularly YouTube. I discovered a wealth of music beyond what I heard on the radio. Initially, I was into Linkin Park, Gorillaz, and Foo Fighters, but I soon delved into electronic music, particularly Liquid Drum & Bass. The rise of deep house in Germany was significant, as many artists in that genre gained popularity. It was a formative time for me, and I began attending parties, which really captivated me. A friend from skateboarding took me to a rave, and the atmosphere connected to this music was enthralling. I then asked my parents for a demo version of Ableton Live, which I received as a Christmas gift at 16. I started making beats and not long after, I reached out to Christian Löffler with my first song, “Moonlight,” which I composed after a memorable night outdoors. To my surprise, he replied and invited me to join his label, where I’ve stayed for nearly a decade. This became the launching point for my DJ career, leading to releases and international opportunities.

How did your interest in music video production develop alongside your music? How do you choose locations like those in the Canary Islands for your videos, such as in “Maara”?

Fejká: Visual art has long been an interest of mine. I began with photography and later progressed to creating music videos. When producing a track, I often envision particular locations. My relationship with the Canary Islands has deep roots; it was my first destination traveled with my parents outside Europe, over a decade ago, leaving a lasting impression on me. The natural beauty of the islands felt right for shooting a music video, given my time spent there producing music. During a hike, I found a perfect spot that inspired me to shoot a video, and it just felt like the ideal place.

What artistic growth did you experience with this album?

Fejká: To me, music represents two worlds, almost like a body and a soul. I enjoy listening to electronic and techno music at night, while embracing softer, indie sounds during the day. I've always wondered why my musical style felt inherently diverse, and I realized my music reflects this duality. I enjoy producing smooth tracks but also have a drive for harder, energetic versions. I recognized that I don’t need to
