DIY Label Spotlight #8: Sad Club Records

"I'm engaging in this because it's something I enjoy and aims to improve people's lives - if it fails to achieve either of those goals, then that’s an issue." What would you consider your proudest or most fulfilling moment with Sad Club? Last year, I hosted a Sad Club Christmas party at Rough Trade East, and it was incredible - the place was overflowing, and everyone seemed to be having a blast. That could be my proudest moment, alongside a few other events related to the label. Most of my time managing the label involves dealing with spreadsheets and similar tasks, so these real-life events really highlight that what you’ve built is substantial! Additionally, I appreciate the indie label market days when people approach me to discuss Sad Club. A woman once asked if I was planning to bring back the compilations because she thought they were really cool - moments like that make me incredibly proud. Moreover, witnessing the success and joy of the artists I collaborate with is deeply fulfilling. It’s all for them <3 What advice would you share with any artists collaborating with an independent label like Sad Club? That’s a tough one! Stay true to yourself? Keep in mind that we all desire the best for one another. What's one piece of advice for running a label that you would give your younger self? Don't take everything too seriously, focus on the joy! I carry a lot of anxiety and apprehension within me, but over the years, I've been able to let go of much of it. I'm doing this because I genuinely enjoy it and want to enhance people's lives - and if it no longer meets either purpose, that's a concern. What are you most looking forward to for the rest of 2025? So much! We've got some beautiful releases scheduled for the end of this year, including an EP titled ‘Somehow You Grow’ from our wonderful new signing, tall child. There will be some lovely contributions from Symbol Soup and Kitty Fitz, as well as the introduction of a new artist! We’re also planning some shows…
