Kassa Overall Reimagines a Wu-Tang Classic in This Jazz Journey

      A brilliant reinterpretation of a hip-hop classic...

Kassa Overall has unveiled his version of the Wu-Tang Clan classic ‘C.R.E.A.M. (CASH RULES EVERYTHING AROUND ME)’.

The jazz artist’s upcoming album is named ‘CREAM’ and is set to drop via the esteemed left-field label Warp Records on September 12th.

A sort of title track, ‘C.R.E.A.M. (CASH RULES EVERYTHING AROUND ME)’ is reimagined in this bold and innovative jazz arrangement.

Using the Wu-Tang classic as a launching point, Kassa Overall ascends into new heights, approaching it as a minor blues.

      He offers a transcendent perspective:

Their entire vibe represented a counter to the money-driven, flashy mentality. For me, the original ‘C.R.E.A.M.’ was a critique of ‘Get Money.’ It embodied realism, highlighting everyone's struggles to get ahead while also hinting at something greater. You could rise above and even manage the material realm through a higher spiritual essence.

Navigating between the gritty Wu-Tang club beats and the spiritual insights of John Coltrane, this interpretation pays tribute to two of Kassa Overall’s major influences.

      He elaborates:

I’ve heard tales of Trane’s band performing in clubs with just eight patrons, playing as if their lives depended on it, fueled by the spirit and purpose of their music. People often see us as entertainers, seeking recognition and money, but we are also aiming for deeper artistry.
