Wolf Alice has released their new single ‘White Horses.’

Their upcoming album ‘The Clearing’ is set to be released on August 22nd, featuring bold and striking songwriting that captures a journey in which Wolf Alice travels the globe only to return to North London, gaining a deeper understanding of themselves.

‘White Horses’ explores themes of finding roots and establishing foundations, emerging from a deeply personal perspective. Drummer Joel Amey leads the track, which then transitions into a resonant duet with Ellie, elevating the song to new heights.

Joel describes his inspiration: “I drew from the songs we had been shaping for ‘The Clearing’; the unique sonic qualities, expansive acoustics, and harmonies, but I also wanted to incorporate a driving krautrock rhythm.”

The lyrics are autobiographical, reflecting his family and the significance of heritage. “Until recently, we never truly understood where we came from in terms of our heritage. My mother and my aunt were adopted, which for years raised questions about our identity and origins, but for me, those answers didn’t seem essential to discover.”

In line with the broader narratives of ‘The Clearing’, the band’s global experiences liberated Joel, leading him to seek stronger connections with his bandmates.

He remarks: “I was on a grand adventure with my best friends, never feeling the necessity to call one place home, living out of a suitcase, embracing everything that comes with being in a band. I felt that the questions of ‘who am I and where do I come from?’ became less significant; I had chosen my family, and they were the people surrounding me.”

A beautiful piece of songwriting, you can listen to it below.
