A release of material from the innovative jazz artist...
American musician Makaya McRaven has announced his plans for four new EPs.
These EPs will be issued under XL Recordings in the UK, with a release date set for October 31st. This surge of activity comes after the success of his 2022 album ‘In These Times’.
The collection of EPs showcases some of his lasting interests—Makaya has strong ties to the London jazz scene, and his travels also serve as a source of inspiration across his work.
The EPs are titled ‘Techno Logic’, ‘The People’s Mixtape’, ‘Hidden Out!’, and ‘PopUp Shop’, all slated for release on October 31st.
Each EP is unique yet interconnected. ‘Techno Logic’ features UK artists Theon Cross and Ben LaMar Gay and includes recordings made in London; ‘The People’s Mixtape’ is a live session from Brooklyn’s Public Records recorded in January 2025.
‘Hidden Out!’ contains recordings from Makaya’s June 2017 residency at The Hideout in Chicago, featuring a rotating group of musicians including bassist Junius Paul, Tortoise member and composer Jeff Parker, and GRAMMY-winning alto saxophonist Josh Johnson.
Lastly, ‘PopUp Shop’ is comprised of recordings from McRaven’s debut performance in Los Angeles at Del Monte Speakeasy in 2015, showcasing guitarist Jeff Parker, vibraphonist Justefan, and bassist Benjamin J. Shepherd’s contributions.
In addition, all four EPs will be compiled into a new 2LP release titled ‘Off The Record’, which is available for pre-order.
