The new album 'Guitar' is set to release this Friday.
Mac DeMarco has unveiled a new track titled ‘Phantom’, which serves as the final sneak peek of his upcoming album ‘Guitar’, arriving this Friday through Mac’s Record Label.
After last month’s single ‘Holy’ and the lead single ‘Home’, Mac brings a more subdued vibe in ‘Phantom’ – a dimly lit, understated song that captures the artist in a state of profound, persistent longing.
In the opening lines of the song, he sings: “Sure, I’d give it up // Just for one more chance to say goodnight // Oh, my love, was it real or just fantasy? // Your phantom sits with me.”
The entirety of ‘Guitar’ was written and recorded in November 2024 at Mac’s residence in Los Angeles. Except for the mastering, done by David Ives, Mac independently managed all aspects of the album, including mixing it in Canada and capturing the artwork using tripods.
Mac shares: “I believe Guitar reflects as closely as possible my current life situation. I’m excited to share this music and eager to perform these songs as many places as I can.”
He will begin his tour later this month, featuring UK dates in November that include performances at London’s Eventim Apollo, Birmingham’s O2 Academy, Manchester’s Aviva Studios, and more.
