Last night marked the sixth annual GRM Gala, hosted at the prestigious Hurlingham Club in Fulham. Organized by GRM Daily, the foremost music platform for Black British music, this event brings the scene together in their finest attire within an opulent setting. Notable guests included Jordan Adetunji, Krept & Konan, Alesha Dixon, Jamelia, Keisha and Mutya from Sugababes, and the legendary British rapper, Bashy.
All attendees certainly adhered to the “Dress to Impress” code. Women sparkled in the afternoon sunlight, while men appeared sharp in tailored suits, some even flaunting cigars. Everyone was aware of the need to dress appropriately, as the venue was adorned with numerous photo opportunities, including a large sign reading “GRM GALA” in reflective gold letters and a floral arch featuring neon branding at the entrance.

An event of this magnitude requires significant sponsorship for its execution, with partners like Moët & Chandon, Rock Angel, Volcan, and Belvedere backing it. However, Hennessy stood out, impressing guests with its offerings. A dedicated bar served a variety of Hennessy cocktails, including the Gala Tropic (Hennessy mixed with pineapple juice) and Capone and Nore (Hennessy ginger mojito), along with champagne. When the bar became crowded, attendees could conveniently visit a Hennessy cart outside for Henny-Ritas (a Hennessy take on margaritas), ensuring refreshments were always close at hand.
Catering was provided by Fireaway Pizzas, which didn’t quite match the high standards set by other aspects of the event. Nonetheless, a delightful Crack Cookie was handed out upon exit, serving as the perfect late-night treat for the journey home.

A new aspect of this year's gala was its charitable focus. Guests were requested to make a mandatory donation to support The African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT). “Our mission is to raise awareness about the lack of diverse donors, as having a matched donor from the same ethnic background can greatly enhance treatment outcomes. The ACLT offers hope to those affected by blood cancer and related conditions, such as Sickle Cell, while also advocating for policy changes to ensure equitable treatment for all ethnicities. We believe that no one should die waiting for a donor,” stated the organizers. The invitation specified that all contributions would go directly to ACLT, and by the end of the night, GRM’s founder, Posty, presented the charity with a cheque for over £41,000.
For a platform like GRM Daily, which has evolved from its early blogging days through a rapidly changing music landscape and social media revolution, it is only fitting to merge a night of celebration and joy with meaningful support for causes that resonate deeply within the same community.
