Myd Welcomes Club Culture in His Star-Studded Album, ‘Mydnight’

Since releasing his debut album ‘Born A Loser’ in 2021, French singer, songwriter, producer, and DJ Myd has experienced a surge over the past three years, taking his music to an international audience. The sunny indie electronica showcased in tracks such as the viral hit ‘The Sun’ has rightly earned him festival engagements around the globe, including a brief appearance at Glastonbury 2025, where the vibe of his upcoming project ‘Mydnight’ may surprise current fans.

“The live performances were already more club-oriented than the previous album,” he explains regarding the shift in tone. “They included remixes and various elements. When I perform, I want the audience to dance – even during a folk ballad, I aim to create that atmosphere.” The shift to a new level was prompted by casual discussions among dance music legends.

“I was at a party in Paris where Armand Van Helden was DJing at the Rex Club, and Thomas Bangalter from Daft Punk was also present,” he reminisces. “With all the pressure surrounding the new album, I approached Thomas for advice. He told me: be simple. Go with the flow, follow your inspiration, and always let the music stem from that. This way, you’ll have material to work with instead of overthinking any concept.”

His advice was straightforward yet enabled him to harness the world he had immersed himself in during touring: “After three years of touring globally from Ibiza to Tokyo, this stream-of-consciousness writing transformed into club music. It wasn’t about excessive conceptualization; rather, it felt like transitioning from the club directly to the studio, so the BPM was 132 and the heavy beats came out first.”

Despite the clarity of direction, producing immediate results was not certain. Myd candidly states, “creating music can be quite a struggle. Similar to a writer starting a book, you face a blank page and must contemplate: what do I want to convey? It’s about delving deep into your self and seeking inspiration, which is challenging to articulate. It's easy to feel disheartened by the inconsistency of inspiration, but gradually, you grasp the process and learn how to ignite that spark. Evolving as an artist means worrying less about when inspiration strikes; it won't always be there.”

Although his essence is inherently French, his initial inspirations came from British artists like Fatboy Slim and The Prodigy, whose influence has only grown in recent times. “They don't stick to just one style or genre, which keeps them from being confined to trends,” Myd notes. “When you listen to albums by The Chemical Brothers, you hear pop, club, acid, and trance tracks. They infuse their unique style into each, creating timeless music that resonates through generations. They perform at raves, yet also dominate the radio. Perhaps that’s why their music remains timeless, and why I was so captivated by their work as a kid.”

As he matured, he found like-minded individuals within the French music scene, not only in the disco-tinged sounds of Daft Punk but also the electrifying electro-rock of Justice, who would soon become his label mates at Ed Banger—a place where Myd truly flourished. “It granted me the freedom to create as I wish,” he reflects. “There are only about ten artists, which allows Busy P [Pedro Winter, label owner] to trust each of us regarding music and artistic vision. He encourages me to simplify and remain true to myself.”

“When you’re young, you often think: I need to be edgy, I need to be cynical, I need to conceal my true self to seem cool. Particularly among other DJs, you want to appear more impressive than the rest. You observe dressing rooms in large line-ups and feel the urge to fit in. Pedro was the first to tell me not to complicate myself. It may seem simple, but sometimes you need someone to remind you to stop hiding your true self.”

‘Born A Loser’ celebrated an eccentric, joyful persona and life itself, but the upcoming ‘Mydnight’ was beginning to reflect his development since then—until he lost the hard drive containing the master files. “I had backups, naturally, but they weren’t complete, and I wanted to release soon.” The solution? Engage his fan base to create urgency.

“Completing a song is challenging because you can never tell when it’s finished; in the middle, you feel unconfined, but starting a song is often tough. I sought new energy, which came from having fresh input. So, I set up five cameras in the studio and streamed live on Twitch for 100,000 viewers. It was incredibly intense—technically, few have done that, and streaming 24/7 isn’t easy.”

The costs of electricity and sharing his sleeping habits were minor sacrifices in pursuit of his dreams and, more significantly, a way to genuinely
