London-based artist Joviale has released their debut album, ‘Mount Crystal’, through Ghostly International.
Co-produced by Joviale, John Carroll Kirby, and Jkarri, ‘Mount Crystal’ unfolds like a theatrical melodrama; the main character, in their mythical journey, fluctuates between electric and soulful tracks, interwoven with unconventional jazz-pop experimentation, ’80s yacht rock influences, and electronic ambiance, all brought to life with contributions from collaborators like Sam Wilkes, Carter Lang, and Will Miller.
Regarding an album experience that is both perplexing and immersive, Joviale states:
“Mount Crystal’s narrative is fueled by the embodiment of desire, danger, and desperation. It’s a mirrored realm in a far-off reality where everything remains unspoken. These chapters seek to dismantle the illusion of pleasure by transforming the relentless pain I’ve faced in my attempts to love, deny, and embrace the sweetest melodies alongside the sweetest friends.”
As a reflective piece on the album, ‘Blu’, the focus track, marks the North London artist’s first experience “writing in communion with someone.” Co-producer Jkarri’s melodic signatures blend seamlessly with Joviale’s vibrant flow as John Carroll Kirby supports on the keys. The soulful pop ballad showcases the collaborative spirit that defines the album: yielding to the music-making process and allowing it to guide you to new destinations.
Joviale will be touring with Nourished By Time in the UK and across Europe in November, including a performance in London at Electric Brixton on November 20th.
Tune in now.
