"We’ve spent the past 18 months crafting and discovering our identity as songwriters, so it felt appropriate to finally release these tracks." In June, you launched your debut mixtape ‘Fall Back’. What does it reflect about you as a band? ‘Fall Back’ was long overdue; some of those songs had been with us for a while and were ready to shine. Over the last 18 months, we’ve been writing and truly understanding our essence as songwriters, so it was the right moment to let them go! What we appreciate about the mixtape is that it captures our instinctual approach to making music—we don’t get bogged down by overthinking; it’s about pursuing a feeling and capturing it while it’s fresh. We’re immensely proud of what ‘Fall Back’ represents for us, and it feels like the beginning of even more to come. Your most recent single, ‘Break The Girl’, has just been released—can you share some insights about the inspiration behind that track? Hi, Lily here! ‘Break The Girl’ is a very meaningful song for me. I was engaged in a difficult conversation with a friend, and it weighed heavily on my mind when Ailbhe and I entered a session that week. It was painful to witness someone so beautiful and dear to me being treated poorly, and I couldn’t focus on anything else, which led to the creation of ‘Break The Girl’. Although the lyrics are sad, the song has an upbeat tone, encapsulating the notion that sometimes all you can do is push through the pain and sing about it. You'll be going back on tour, performing numerous shows abroad in the upcoming months. How do you mentally prepare for taking your music so far from home? To be honest, the excitement is already fueling us—we’re incredibly thrilled to be sharing our music across the globe. This is our first experience doing something like this, and we eagerly anticipate visiting new places and doing what we love most: playing our music… loudly! You'll also be performing at Reeperbahn Festival; what do you hope the audience will take away from your performance? Are there any other artists you're looking forward to seeing? We are extremely excited about Reeperbahn! Our main hope is that the audience enjoys our performance and connects with the music. Music often speaks volumes beyond words, and if listeners can find a song or even a line that resonates with them, we’ll be thrilled. We would also love to catch Alice Phoebe Lou, Matilda Mann, and She’s in Parties while we're there! The Reeperbahn Festival will occur from September 17th to 20th at various venues throughout Hamburg, including Molotow Club, where DIY will have its own stage on Wednesday (the 17th).
