Helado Negro Addresses Digital Disconnection in New Single ‘More’

Roberto Carlos Lange, known as Helado Negro, marks the beginning of a new chapter with the announcement of an EP titled ‘The Last Sound on Earth’ and his signing to the innovative label, Big Dada.

The first glimpse of the project, set for release on November 7th, is showcased in the opening track, ‘More’. This dissonant piece reflects the pressure and isolation experienced in a hyperconnected society, where despite being closely linked, many find themselves feeling more alone than ever.

“It addresses the daily struggle that can lead to being overwhelmed by an excess of everything,” Lange notes.

Initially inspired by the question – what will be the last sound I hear before I die? – the accompanying EP emerges as a compilation of songs filled with a foreboding, often frantic energy. This sense of discomfort is heightened by Lange’s use of electronics, echo, and distortion, which gives his lyrics a dazed, shell-shocked quality.

“When I wake up in the morning, I can hear my ears tuning in to the surrounding world. It feels like a blanket being pulled away from my eardrums,” Lange explains. “While working on these songs, I was watching Michael Snow’s Wavelength and felt a vast space for interpreting what I saw and heard. Each viewing evoked a new emotion in me: despair, hope, and inspiration. I wanted to encourage listeners not only to pause, but to truly reflect — can you sort through the chaos and start anew?”

The single is accompanied by a lyric video created by animator and filmmaker Annapurna Kumar, recognized for her unique combination of hand-drawn animation, stop-motion, CGI, and 16mm film techniques.

Kumar shares, “The central metaphor of this video, the origami heart, symbolizes a person navigating their emotions. By concentrating on a straightforward physical task like folding, the mind is liberated to subconsciously meditate. I aimed to illustrate the mindset of someone who is somewhat overwhelmed by fleeting thoughts but is striving to redirect them into something constructive.”
