A remarkable return from the Oxford band...

In recent decades, the city of Oxford has given rise to prominent acts like Foals, Ride, and Radiohead. Aiming to follow in this distinguished lineage, the alt-rock quartet Kanadia has launched their third album, intriguingly titled ‘The Fire That’s Tearing Through Our Home.’
Following their self-titled debut in 2019 and impressive live shows, Kanadia’s music has often been described as “stadium-ready.” Their latest release embraces this idea, filled with rich, anthemic soundscapes.
Vocalist, guitarist, and main songwriter James Bettis delves into his own existential reflections within the album; contemplating his past, present, and uncertainties, while grappling with intense anxieties. The exploration of profound themes and heavy emotions is contrasted with moments of vibrant clarity and musical expansiveness.
The album was recorded in their hometown at Evolution Recording Studios, produced by Willie J. Healey alongside guitarist Chris Barker, and mixed by Tom Leach (Lewis Capaldi, Pa Salieu, Spiritualized) at Snap Studios, London.
The record features grand, cinematic anthems with echoes of Muse, such as the lead single ‘Going Nowhere’ and ‘The Ways’. These are balanced by the contemplative ‘How Do You Sleep’, the gentle ‘Over Again’, and the simmering title track. Additionally, ‘I’m Falling’ incorporates layers of Moog and electronic elements reminiscent of TV On The Radio and LCD Soundsystem.
The musicianship displayed on this album is undoubtedly impressive, reflecting a sense of growth and evolution within the band, which has welcomed new bassist, Brazilian-born Everton Barbato, while Melissa Marshall (synth/keys) and Tim Lucas (drums) round out the lineup. This synergy has clearly influenced the new album, which consists of twelve cohesive songs that are engaging, mature, and personal.
