Argentine artist Nathy Peluso has unveiled her new salsa EP, 'Malportada', set to release on October 16th.
Reclaiming the genre for rebels and outsiders, Nathy Peluso offers a glimpse of the EP with the title track featuring Venezuelan band Rawayana.
The song 'Malportada' was created in Puerto Rico and co-written and co-produced by Manuel Lara (Kali Uchis, Bad Bunny), Servando Primera, and Beto Montenegro of Rawayana.
While salsa has typically portrayed femininity from a romantic, melancholic, or dreamlike angle, Nathy aims to reclaim the strength and rebellious spirit that has historically characterized the male-dominated narrative, making it uniquely hers. From the outset of her career, Nathy has effortlessly integrated salsa into her diverse musical palette – which includes progressive Latin-pop, hip-hop, and RnB – with an almost transformative approach.
"Salsa is raw and passionate; it's the music of the untamed and the indomitable, and now it also belongs to the misfits," Nathy expresses. "They’ve tried to tame and correct me so many times, but my wild spirit has consistently guided me to the best paths."
"I found Nathy’s music because she often shares reels of her dancing salsa with her distinctive style, which I adore," Beto says. "I’m thrilled that 'Malportada' will be featured on her album because as a kid, I didn’t excel in school, which got me into a lot of trouble. Now, I’m very proud of who I’ve become, and even more so to share this moment with the incredible Nathy ‘fucking’ Peluso."
