The opening track, ‘Honest Man,’ showcases Freak Slug - also known as Manchester’s Xenya Genovese - as she sings over a vibrant blend of jangly indie infused with subtle brass elements, reminiscent of fellow London artists Ugly. ‘Miss June’ embraces anthemic vibes, with its lively indie pop recalling nostalgic summer moments spent in festival fields. Shifting to a more tranquil tone, the chorus of ‘Blue Eyes’ serves as a relaxed serenade: “Meet me by the seaside / Tell me about the dreams you had,” she sings, in a track that merges light tranquility with gritty ‘90s grunge - a soothing sonic remedy for any beach outings disrupted by pesky seagulls. ‘My Only Friend’ sees her sweet yet grungy vocals flowing over dreamy soundscapes, while the closing track ‘Does It Matter’ drifts into whimsical territory, resembling a nearly divine pop journey. Overall, it’s an excellent illustration of an artist utilizing the EP format to explore refreshing sonic landscapes.

Expanding on the foundation of 2023's ‘End Scene’ and 2024's ‘Puppet Show’, the band effortlessly blends melancholic shoegaze, ethereal dream-pop, and introspective indie grit. The opening track ‘Fallen’ introduces the experience with grand ambition, propelled by urgent, theatrical keys that gradually give way to sparkling guitars and gentle, blurred vocals. This marks a significant departure from the shoegaze elements of their previous music, steering the band further into dream-pop territory. In contrast, ‘Same Old Story’ remains closest to their original sound, making it an ideal lead single and a subtle nod to their origins. Additionally, ‘Runaway’ shines with uplifting melodies reminiscent of early Wolf Alice or Pale Waves, while the final track ‘R.E.M.’ brings the collection full circle, fading into something lighter and almost ethereal.
