      Gold stars for everyone.

Katie Henderson, McKenna Petty, and sisters Alisa and Cristal Ramirez of The Aces unveiled Gold Star Baby in August 2025, featuring tracks like “You Got Me,” “Jealous,” and “Twin Flame.”

What sets The Aces apart is their dedication to celebrating the LGBTQ community. The band members often express their intention to create music for queer audiences, emphasizing themes of queer joy, as featured in Gold Star Baby.

“This album is intended to be a source of fun and celebration,” Cristal Ramirez shared in an interview with Atwood Magazine. “I hope fans can embrace it and, no matter where they are in their lives – whether navigating a queer journey or experiencing other moments – discover a little escape and joy in it.”

      “I know where to go,

      Follow the rainbow.

      Every flavor you can

      come and taste ‘em

      When you come with me.

      I think you’ll agree,

      That you’ll never

      wanna go back, baby.”

      – “Gold Star Baby,” The Aces

Their lyrics are refreshingly candid and straightforward, making them highly relatable for listeners. The vibe is light and enjoyable, which is precisely what you want from a concert in NYC on a Wednesday night.

The concert kicked off with “Welcome to Gold Star Baby,” the album’s opening track, which blends funky instrumentals from “Jealous” with a disco-infused commercial intro. The Aces performed from their metaphorical Gold Star Baby Club, showcasing their latest single, “Square One,” alongside other songs from their new album.

“Okay, so this next song is about sex appeal,” Alisa Ramirez exclaimed from behind the drums. “Ever heard of it, New York? If you’re under 25, you probably call it Riz. If you’re over 45, you likely know it as Mojo. We refer to it as the Magic.”

A highlight of the evening was when they performed “I Can Break Your Heart Too” (from 2020’s Under My Influence), with the crowd singing along to every word. The person next to me leaned in and whispered, “I’m in love with the singer,” while pointing her phone at the stage for an Instagram story. When Cristal Ramirez made eye contact with her and smiled, the fan turned to the security guard nearby, squealing with excitement.

What makes this quartet special is their evident friendship on stage, as they strive to be personable and genuine with their audience. They proudly showcased a fan’s customized pride flag and invited an audience member on stage for a shot following the “best dressed” contest. It felt as though everyone was part of their extended friend circle – who wouldn’t want to join the Gold Star Baby Club?
