'Night Fishing On A Calm Lake’ takes us through Jerkcurb’s inner world, blending sounds that typically wouldn’t complement each other and discovering harmony amid the chaos—perhaps a reflection of the experiences following his father's death. Jacob Read is the driving force behind Jerkcurb, orchestrating a delightful array of textures and tones—defying conventional time signatures—while integrating strings, keyboards, harmonies, steel guitars, xylophones, and synthesizers along a winding route through ‘80s influences (‘Home On The Ranch’, ‘Hungry’), country sounds (‘Death Valley Morning Dew,’ ‘Larchmont’), R&B (‘Loss Dub’), folk (‘Mothematics’), and shoegaze (‘The Rocks’). Despite this diverse auditory journey, he maintains a sense of cohesion through soothing harmonies, soft percussion, and repetition—though at times it may risk becoming repetitive—to remind us that this is, indeed, a single cohesive album. The journey is much broader than one would think—so put on your boots and get ready to explore.
