Hohnen Ford: “A greater sense of self-confidence enhances my artistry.”

“I feel part of a community. This means that my artistic journey is not solely about me—it's about all of us, and that’s everything I could ask for.” Hohnen's journey began with piano and flute lessons in childhood, and her passion for jazz eventually led her to study at the Royal Academy of Music. While her background in jazz might account for her instinctual live performances, it was the solitude of lockdown that helped her identify her voice as a writer and break free from the belief (“who can say how much of it was my own perception and how much was real?”) that attracting an audience requires artistic compromise.

“I always said I wanted to either be Prime Minister, work in communities, or pursue music,” she reflects. “I don’t feel like I’m a Prime Minister! But I do feel like I’m part of a community. I feel truly acknowledged by those around me, and I also think—and hope—that they feel recognized within the Hohnen Ford realm. This signifies that my artistic efforts aren’t just about me—they’re about us, and that’s all I desire.”

‘Incurable Optimist’ concludes with the uplifting lullaby ‘Tomorrow’s Tomorrow’, yet it’s the second track, ‘Ordinary’, that holds a special significance for her. Even though it didn’t make her team’s top five selections for the EP tracklist, Hohnen’s faith in the darker, more abstract song was confirmed by the enthusiastic response from fans. “I have immense trust in my audience; they understand me and that song,” she explains. “I’m proud of having stayed true to my instincts.”

It's also a reflection of her commitment to her personal resolutions. As for 2026? “Perhaps it will be a year of conviction,” she ponders. “I’ll keep you posted.”
