New York rock band Sunflower Bean has revealed that their fourth album, ‘Mortal Primetime’, will be released on April 25 via Lucky Number, following the September release of last year’s ‘Shake’ EP. This will be the trio's first album that they have self-produced and serves as the proper sequel to 2022’s ‘Headful Of Sugar’. After their previous album, the group experienced a period of diverging paths, growing apart as life intervened. However, as lead singer Julia Cumming explained, they eventually reconnected and chose to fully commit to the project they've dedicated over a decade to. “You get to decide what your prime is, and you fight for it,” she stated. “This is ours, and it can't be taken away by circumstances. We can't take it away from each other. This moment, where we are now, is what we’ve always fought for.” The new single ‘Champagne Taste’ reflects this revitalized energy; named after the term the band uses for testing new songs, it’s a powerful piece of classic rock that came after what they described as a period feeling like rock bottom. They noted, “It is about feeling beaten down but still moving forward, to keep faith, to grow and to continue creating on our own terms, our Mortal Primetime.” You can watch the official video for ‘Champagne Taste’ here. High-energy performances have always been a hallmark of Sunflower Bean, and their ‘Mortal Primetime’ phase will be no exception; check out where you can see them live this year below.
