Momma’s ‘Bottle Blonde’ Reflects on Nostalgia

"A letter to our former selves..."

American band Momma has released their new song ‘Bottle Blonde’.

The group is operating with a refreshed lineup, while still emphasizing the core creative collaboration between Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten.

Their upcoming album ‘Welcome To My Blue Sky’ will be available on April 4th, marking a departure for Momma as they look towards the future and leave behind their past.

The new single ‘Bottle Blonde’ features electronic breakbeats layered beneath their gritty, pop-tinged indie rock, with an energetic tempo that disrupts traditional guitar-driven sounds. By dismantling familiar themes, Momma seeks to navigate through nostalgia and rediscover their foundation.

“We wrote this song as a message to our younger selves, when we were 23 and 24, navigating a challenging tour that took a significant toll on our emotional and mental well-being,” Friedman and Weingarten explain. “We both had bleached hair and were facing major decisions that would influence our lives and self-perceptions. The song began as a kind of affirmation to our past selves, reassuring us that everything would be fine if we followed our hearts. However, reflecting on it now, the lyrics can also be interpreted as a conversation between us.”
