I tread a path meant for lovers only…

Love Spells’ vocals are fragile, his lyrics haunting, and his music deeply personal, passionate, and raw.
Sadly, there was one spell he couldn't cast – and the pain that ensued clings to him like a ghost, haunting his days and nights as he mulls over what-ifs in the breeze, envisioning a parallel reality where she chose him; where she accepted his love. The profound weight of unrequited love is encapsulated in his tender, hazy creation “Lovers Only,” the softly moving outpouring of a hurt heart and shattered spirit.
Lovers Only – Love Spells
Darling, your perspective is off
The wires are crossed and tangled
You should be with me, not him
Since you’ve been with him
Your light has dimmed
I’ll lift the burden
Off your shoulders this time
I’ll wait for you in this life
How could he hurt you?
He doesn’t deserve the right
Released on February 13th via Loveless, just in time for Valentine’s Day, “Lovers Only” is Love Spells’ first single of 2025 and a glimpse of his upcoming third EP (details to be announced). This heartbreak-infused track follows December's dreamy “With Only Your Mouth,” which Atwood Magazine hailed as “a vulnerable work of inner turmoil and emotional reckoning that captures the fragility and pain of love.”
With a voice as soft as a whisper, and melodies as calming and therapeutic as the sea, Love Spells is undeniably easy to adore. In just a few short years, the 20-year-old singer/songwriter from Houston, Texas (born Sir Taegen C’aion Harris) has carved out his niche in the alternative music scene, merging his ethereal vocals with a delicate array of sparkling instruments to create a unique sound that hovers between dream pop and psychedelic indie rock.

Similar to its predecessor, “Lovers Only” draws upon the former, filled with the raw emotion of a heart grappling with grief and yearning. These feelings resonate with profound intensity as the artist reaches the song’s chorus, which culminates in a heartfelt revelation of the self:
And I kissed a woman
that’ll never know me
And she missed the one man
that would treat her right
And I died every day at her sight
Knowing she’ll never find love in me
And I walk a path that’s meant for lovers only
Couldn’t let go even if she’ll never want me
Because her gaze lifts me high
The end is near if you choose to leave
“Lovers Only” is my expression of raw frustration, a product of moments when someone else’s fears or hesitations seep into your life and begin to tear you apart,” Love Spells shares with Atwood Magazine.
“It centers on the agony of a faltering love. Love is not supposed to break us, but its trials can cut deep, leaving scars on the soul that never fully heal.”
I’m trapped
In the plastic depth of your sea
If I were him, would you save me?
Would you catch and then release?
I’m truly yours
You don’t need me this time
You didn’t need me in this life
I couldn’t settle for other sights
While his music exudes a distinctly atmospheric quality, there’s an element of grittiness in Love Spells’ performance.
The tension and turbulence he conveys manifest in his swirling electric guitars (the lead guitar line is particularly reminiscent of early 2000s indie), heavy drums, and muddy bass, among other elements.
All these components merge to create a darkly compelling, emotionally charged piece that resonates powerfully, leaving a lasting impression on the listener – forever embedding Love Spells’ own heartache in our memories.
At its finest, love can complete us – transforming the mundane into the extraordinary – yet at its worst, love can cast an endless shadow over us, a storm cloud perpetually darkening our outlook. “Lovers Only” emphasizes the latter, highlighting those inherently human wounds that, for better or worse, shape our identities.
And I kissed a woman that’ll never know me
And she missed the one man that would treat her holy
And I died every day at her sight
Knowing she’ll never find love in me
And I walk a path that’s meant for lovers only
Couldn’t give it up even if she’ll never want me
