It appears that Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, members of boygenius, are officially a couple.
The songwriters, along with Phoebe Bridgers, propelled the project to global recognition, debuting their album and performing at the largest headlining shows of their careers. The trio spent approximately 18 months touring before deciding to take a break to focus on their individual projects.
Lucy Dacus is set to release a new solo album on March 28th, and the music she has shared thus far has been consistently exceptional. In a profile for The New Yorker by esteemed writer Amanda Petrusich, the widely speculated relationship between Dacus and Baker was confirmed – they are indeed official.
The profile makes it clear: “Dacus is now in a committed relationship with Baker.”
This is certainly a lovely development for the world at large.
However, Lucy Dacus mentioned that the scrutiny from fans can be challenging – “it only takes a handful to make your life feel like a really easily threatened thing.” She added, “I’ve been working on not reinforcing that narrative for myself.”
Much of her new album revolves around her feelings for Julien Baker, who is both a fellow songwriter and bandmate. “It’s been interesting, because I want to protect what is precious in my life while also being honest and creating genuine art. I think a part of it is just trusting that it’s not at risk.”
“Perhaps a healthier perspective is that it’s not actually fragile. These songs are about different people. But, you know, ‘Most Wanted Man In West Tennessee’ — what can you do?”
