Uwade makes her comeback with new single ‘Harmattan’.
The songwriter recently took to the stage in London, performing at The Forge in Soho for a special sold-out concert. Much of her set was centered around her album ‘Florilegium’, giving fans a preview of her upcoming full-length project.
The newly released song ‘Harmattan’ showcases her meticulous creativity. Raised in North Carolina, the artist spent considerable time perfecting the track, treating it like a complex puzzle.
Slowly, the pieces fell into place, mirroring the song's theme of establishing order from chaos.
Now available, ‘Harmattan’ reveals the delicate and polished nature of this Fleet Foxes-endorsed artist’s work. She shares…
For an extended period, this track was a massive puzzle. I struggled to determine the lyrics, find a compelling arrangement, or transition it from the initial demo stages to its current form.
Interestingly, the creative process of the song parallels its subject matter—plenty of inquiries, few responses, and the necessity to seek solace amid chaos. I discovered that each new phase of experimentation unveiled another aspect of the song that I cherished.
As ‘Harmattan’ evolved from demo to studio and back again, I honed my vision, and the track became precisely what I envisioned. ‘Will you sway with me when my voice gives out?’ is one of my favorite lines from Florilegium. Writing it helped me untangle a significant knot of anxiety regarding my identity as a musician that I had been grappling with for a while. I don’t believe there’s a definitive answer, but I’m okay with that for the moment.’
Tune in now.
