The new single 'Sweetie' has been released...
KOKOROKO will launch their new album 'Tuff Times Never Last' on July 11th.
This album follows their celebrated debut, which merged afrobeat, highlife, and jazz into a vibrant mix, released three years ago. KOKOROKO took their music on a global tour before returning to the studio to chart their next phase.
'Tuff Times Never Last' is the outcome of that effort. Set to come out via the esteemed Brownswood Recordings on July 11th, the album's title is inspired by a social media meme. Co-bandleader Onome Edgeworth commented on the title's significance: “It’s true! While we focus on joy and celebration, we recognize that much of that beauty arises from challenges and hardships. It felt like a natural truth we stumbled upon during our writing process.”
As a group that values improvisation and the uniqueness of individual expression, this record allows KOKOROKO to explore new territories in their artistry. Co-bandleader Sheila Maurice-Grey adds…
“At our core, we’re jazz musicians, but we've aimed to avoid confining ourselves to a single sound. There’s a newfound sense of freedom we’re beginning to experience. We aspire to remain as creative as we can without feeling restricted.”
The artwork for the album was created by Luci Pina, and KOKOROKO will perform at O2 Academy Brixton in London on September 25th.
