Yaya Bey has unveiled her new single titled ‘raisins’.
The artist is preparing for the launch of her upcoming album ‘Do It Afraid’, which will be released on June 20th via drink sum wtr. Known for her exceptional poetic talent, the new track ‘raisins’ draws inspiration from one of Yaya Bey’s favorite authors, while also addressing a broader theme.
Based on a line from the influential Black American writer Langston Hughes, ‘raisins’ highlights the realization of a dream and the idea that the anticipation can often surpass the final outcome.
This enchanting piece of music showcases Yaya’s captivating voice, creating a rich audio experience, while the production by Grammy-nominated DJ Harrison is, as always, outstanding.

It’s challenging to encapsulate ‘raisins’ in a brief summary, but it’s about the pursuit of love, joy, and freedom, fully aware that pain will accompany it. It’s an act of surrender. It’s about allowing myself to dream. It may not come to fruition, but perhaps the true joy lies not in the realization, but in the dreaming itself. The title is inspired by a poem by Langston Hughes called Harlem, where he asks, ‘What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?’
