Iona Zajac has released a new single titled ‘Bang’.
The artist from Edinburgh has experienced various artistic phases—starting as a clarsach player, her folk inclinations eventually led her to the group Avocet, before she fully embraced her solo career.
Having become connected with the influential group The Pogues, she is currently a touring member of their ensemble. Her recent single ‘Summer’ highlighted her ethereal folk style, but ‘Bang’ offers a distinct change in direction.
It serves as a tribute to the physical, celebrating sensuality, and is a lighthearted homage to the uncomplicated joys of a good bang.
She elaborates,
“I penned ‘Bang’ after realizing that sex could be enjoyable. While that seems like a given, it wasn’t my experience as a young woman. I believe this is true for many. There were confusing encounters, often overshadowed by the harsh teenage realities of slut-shaming. I disliked my body and struggled to find enjoyment in it. Then suddenly, it was pure joy; the shame disappeared and I felt compelled to express it.” “So, I created ‘Bang’. For the video, we aimed for simplicity, celebrating female pleasure and capturing a day in the life of a bored woman who enjoys to bang!”
