A superb continuation of their collaboration...

These are thrilling times for rap enthusiasts. Clipse has released their first – magnificent – album in over 15 years, and Tyler, the Creator made a surprising return to the dancefloor. Shortly after, Freddie Gibbs and the Alchemist reunited, presenting rap fans with a new project from their acclaimed collaboration.
Known for his ability to constantly evolve, last year’s ‘You Only Die 1nce’ marked a significant moment, showcasing Freddie’s weight. ‘Alfredo 2’ brings Freddie Gibbs back to his origins, serving as a sequel to the Alchemist-supported 2020 ‘Alfredo’. One of the highest points in either artist’s discography, there's an undeniable sense of enchantment in this partnership – and this sequel lives up to expectations.
The track ‘1995’ serves as a crunchy, introspective opener, with Freddie Gibbs delivering impressive performance as he navigates the highs and lows of Alchemist’s production. ‘Mar-a-Lago’ presents an intriguing yet complex offering, while the vibrant energy of Anderson .Paak brightens up ‘Ensalada’, adding a unique flair to the album.
‘Empanadas’ showcases Freddie Gibbs’ often overlooked humor, with his infectious energy enhancing the track; Larry June complements Freddie Gibbs beautifully on ‘Feeling’ – both artists adeptly handle the intricacies of Alchemist’s beats.
This album feels inherently strong from beginning to end, leaving little to chance. With 14 tracks and 48 minutes, it’s a tight, polished endeavor – ‘Shangri La’ is captivating, ‘Lavish Habits’ features some of Freddie’s best wordplay yet, and ‘Jean Claude’ explodes with an evident sense of Alchemist’s avant-funk.
Concluding with ‘A Thousand Mountains’ – where the vast spaces of the beat are illuminated by flute melodies, Alchemist’s exceptional audio artistry – Freddie Gibbs’ promise to embody the “Black Bruce Wayne” feels groundbreaking. An album of profound depth, ‘Alfredo 2’ is a tribute to the craft, a standard of excellence. Is it superior to the original? Only time will reveal – ‘Alfredo’ was a remarkable moment filled with context, but occasionally sequels surpass their predecessors.
