Just when it seemed like IDLES might be preparing to take a break, they have released a new single. The band, who are set to conclude the ‘TANGK’ era with two major shows in Bristol this weekend, has unveiled their latest track, ‘Rabbit Run’, which is also part of the soundtrack for the upcoming crime film Caught Stealing. For the soundtrack of the Darren Aronofsky film, the band has not only provided four new original songs, including this single, but they have also recorded the entire score composed by Rob Simonsen.
Regarding the collaboration, Joe Talbot of the band stated: “This has been an incredible opportunity for us that seemed to come about from a random encounter backstage at Fallon when we were both guests on the same day. Looking back, I realize that Darren is one of my favorite directors, and his films have shaped me as an artist in many ways. This surreal experience has been a lifelong dream that I will relive with great humility and joy.” The film’s director, Aronofsky, added: “I designed Caught Stealing to be a thrilling ride and aimed to enhance the film with a punk vibe. I don’t believe a band has ever been tasked with creating a movie score. Who better to partner with than IDLES? Watching them manipulate their music to create an impact on our film has been a dream.”
The band’s new song comes just before their significant Bristol Block Party performances this weekend, which are scheduled for tonight (1st August) and tomorrow. Check out ‘Rabbit Run’ below, along with the complete tracklist for the Caught Stealing soundtrack listed after the player.
