"Deep down, I realized that the work I was creating didn't truly resonate with my authentic self, making it feel quite draining." While ‘My Island’ does include some serious hits, ‘In My Head’ equally highlights your lyrically vulnerable and relatable side. Did you enter the studio with the intention of balancing these two distinct tones, or did that contrast develop more naturally? It developed more naturally! ‘In My Head’ was actually a bit of a last-ditch effort: we had spent the whole day in the studio without making significant progress, so Gil, who produced the track, started playing around on the guitar and introduced the riff you hear in the song. Suddenly, everything clicked, and I began writing what felt like a personal diary. Songs like ‘Hello Kitty’ fully embrace the dancier, hyper-pop elements of your sound - why did this direction feel right for this next chapter, rather than the balladic style of tracks like ‘Porn Lied To Us’ or ‘Miss America’? I just like to follow what feels right in the moment: I still enjoy a ballad, but right now I want to dance! I'm feeling free, fun, and grateful, and I think that energy naturally translates into my music. You’ve also just released the official video for ‘Hello Kitty’, featuring some impressive choreography (it’s Britney, bitch!). How did you conceive the visual concept? What’s your favorite memory from shooting the video? OMG! A Britney reference - thank you so much. Honestly, I was really struggling to keep up with the talented dancers, but I knew we couldn't release this song without choreography! I collaborated with Ben Cole, the director, to create the vision: I wanted something a bit industrial and gritty to merge with a fantasy theme, which led to the green screen concept! You recently made your live return at the Isle Of Wight Festival - what was it like to perform these new songs for a crowd for the first time? Can you share any updates about your performance plans for the rest of 2025? It was amazing! I absolutely love performing live; it’s my favorite thing! Speaking of which, I just announced my next headline show for October 4th in Hackney!!! I'm so excited; it's been a while, and I can't wait to get back on stage in front of an audience that I know is there for the music. Now that we understand what your island sounds like, what would it LOOK like? A beach, sunshine, sand, a bikini so tiny it’s almost invisible, tequila, Marlboro Golds, and my girlfriends!!!!
He will be performing a major DJ set at the festival's East Stage this Sunday, August 17th - and entry is completely free.
