James Blake announced that he has “almost” finished his new album.
The songwriter shared this update at a special event held at Ladbroke Hall in West London, organized by audio company Bowers & Wilkins. The event marked the launch of their latest Px8 S2 headphones, an advancement of their signature over-ear technology.
James Blake has been a long-time advocate for the brand, having Bowers & Wilkins speakers installed in his studio.
During the event, the English artist was accompanied by football legend David Beckham, and the two engaged in a friendly conversation onstage, moderated by 6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne.
In an interesting twist, James Blake is a devoted Manchester United supporter, and he revealed that David Beckham graciously sent a video greeting to his father.
David Beckham stars in the main video advertisement for Bowers & Wilkins' For The Journey campaign, while James Blake has contributed a new song titled ‘Make Something Up,’ featuring him on guitar.
This marks a rare instance of Blake playing the guitar, which he noted his father has played for his entire life. The song debuted live during an intimate performance, which also featured poignant renditions of classics like ‘Limit To Your Love,’ as well as covers of songs by Joni Mitchell and Frank Ocean.
In this special performance, James Blake talked about his move from LA to London, his love for British humor, and shared that his new studio album is “almost” finished.
Reflecting on his collaboration with David Beckham and his role in the Bowers & Wilkins campaign, James Blake stated: “As David mentioned, I’ve been a Manchester United supporter for a long time, so seeing his image on screen with my music felt incredibly surreal. I have countless memories of watching him play, which adds to the significance of this collaboration.”
“For me, Make Something Up embodies freedom. A significant part of that comes from the fact that I wrote it on a guitar – an instrument I don’t typically play. Composing on an unfamiliar instrument challenges you to break free from your usual patterns, allowing you the freedom to truly express yourself.”
The Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 headphones are now available for purchase at a price of £629.
