Felix Mackenzie-Barrow, known as one-fourth of the emerging alt-country group Divorce, has announced his intention to release a debut solo album under the name Book of Churches. This announcement follows a remarkable year for Divorce, who garnered enthusiastic acclaim for their debut record ‘Drive To Goldenhammer’ and performed in various locations across the UK, Europe, and North America, including a standout appearance at Wales’ Green Man Festival. Written during brief periods amid this hectic schedule, Felix’s solo endeavor originated from an "incredibly DIY" approach, where he would write a song, record it the following day, and then leave it untouched before entrusting the album to producer Richie Kennedy (Interpol, The Last Dinner Party). Set to be released on March 6 via Gravity / Capitol, the self-titled album has been previewed with its lead single ‘Song By A Stranger’, which Felix describes as "the blueprint for how I wanted to make the album." Reflecting on the album as a whole, he explains: “It feels a bit like a travelogue. In some ways, when I wrote these songs, I was reaching out to the person I was no longer with – just saying hello. At times, the songs sought a North Star to connect with. It encapsulates how vast the world is and how fragile those few connections with others can be, which can resonate deeply over great distances and durations. Book of Churches is essentially a metaphor for my feelings while creating these songs. They represent my interpretation of whatever church signifies.” Be sure to check out our Great 2025 Debate, where Felix shared his thoughts on the coming year, and watch the video for ‘Song By A Stranger’ below. Felix will take Book of Churches on tour for the first time this Spring, with a series of headline shows across the UK, including a special hometown show at the Nottingham Contemporary gallery. Tickets will be available starting at 10 am this Friday, January 9; see the complete tour schedule below.
