The South London-based artist just lil has unveiled her latest single 'come tru', taken from her upcoming EP titled ‘distant shade’ which is set to drop in February.
Produced by German producer Ludwig A.F., ‘come tru’ follows her prior releases ‘think about u’ and ‘rose on a stone’, expanding on lil’s dimly-lit, holistic approach to club music. The track serves as a digital dispatch from the dancefloor, blending pitch-shifted vocals with a hypnotic, minimalist beatscape.
Over the past year, just lil has established a close-knit group of collaborators, working in the studio with artists like Jeshi, Cameo Blush, and DJ Seinfeld. As a resident on London’s Foundation FM, just lil has become one of the city's standout new tastemakers within the club scene.
Having initially learned to sing by emulating pitched garage and grime vocals found in 90s R&B songs, just lil discovered her unique voice and developed a complex style that reinterprets sampling in conjunction with traditional songwriting, resulting in a sound that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.
Recently, just lil provided support for Ross From Friends / Bubble Love at his sold-out performance at London’s Outernet.
The release of ‘come tru’ comes with a visualizer directed by Talia Beale (Nia Archives, Gorillaz, Pa Salieu) and a series of short performance visuals filmed by sought-after tastemaker and filmmaker Arran Ashan (blackhaine, Sainte, jawnino).
