José González is set to release his new album, ‘Against The Dying Of The Light,’ later this year.
The acclaimed Swedish artist last unveiled a studio album in 2021, with his work ‘Local Valley’ receiving widespread praise.
Making a return last year, González shared his new single ‘Pajarito’ – a brief, sub-two-minute track that showcases a dreamy, autumnal alt-folk style.
Taking its name from Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, ‘Against The Dying Of The Light’ addresses the current dystopian climate, allowing the artist to delve deeply into some of today's pressing issues.
He describes the album as “a reflection on how we create obstacles to human well-being by clinging obstinately to dogmatic beliefs, where individuals follow leaders who pretend to possess knowledge they lack.”
“These songs explore how we can guide humanity toward flourishing both individually and collectively. They can be enjoyed purely for their sounds, harmonies, and rhythms, but the lyrics aim to motivate listeners to engage and collaborate in solving shared challenges.”
Available for pre-order now, the title track ‘Against The Dying Of The Light’ has already been released. Describing it, José González states:
“It’s a song contemplating humanity in 2025; about embracing who we are and what brought us here, as the past cannot be altered. It focuses on the challenges that lie ahead, such as corrupt incentives and algorithms that do not support human flourishing.”
“Even though we have tremendous opportunities with new technology that can eventually reproduce itself, we don’t need to rush into building it if it could render us obsolete. We can resist these replicators and fight against the fading of the light.”
