Scotland's Katie Gregson-MacLeod has unveiled a new single that is as introspectively beautiful as her previous work. Following the release of her last solo project, the EP ‘Big Red,’ in 2023, Katie's latest track stemmed from a transformative period in her life, during which she left her former major label and joined Matt Maltese’s emerging indie label, Last Recordings On Earth. Regarding their friendship and working dynamic, Matt has expressed admiration for Katie, stating, “I’ve always been a huge admirer of her ability to combine sadness, humour, anger and poise all at once in her work. She’s undeniably a songwriter’s songwriter, and I can’t wait to be a part of all the brilliant music to come.”
Sharing insights into the influences behind her new song, Katie describes “‘Teenage Love’ as a tribute to the small but powerful aspect of me where anger resides. I wrote most of the song over two years ago while processing some new resentment I felt on behalf of my younger self. As a teenage girl, there’s a perception that being ‘angry’ is the worst thing you can be. It wasn’t until later that I recognized the strength that anger could have provided me back then; a strength I believed I would achieve in my quest to seem ‘mature’ or ‘patient.’ The song doesn’t express regret but rather raises many questions. It explores lingering emotions from past relationships—unanswered queries and resentments—and it also finds humor in it, as we often must to make sense of our experiences.”
