A CONVERSATION WITH DAILLA
Atwood Magazine: Can you share your musical background? How did your journey into music begin, and what early experiences shaped your sound?
Dailla: Music has always been a part of my life, but the first significant turning point came when I was seven. I entered a singing contest, hoping to succeed, but ended up coming in last. Naturally, I was disappointed, but it also made me realize how much it meant to me. That moment motivated me to improve. Later, especially in my teenage years, music became my outlet for emotions I couldn’t express. Writing songs allowed me to better understand myself; it wasn’t about perfection, but about authenticity. I started with piano in Bratislava, later added vocals, guitar, and drums. I was influenced by music that felt genuine, emotional songs with raw guitars and strong melodies. That essence remains with me, and today I enjoy mixing it with contemporary sounds to create something honest and innovative.
Fans often liken your music to Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift. What are your thoughts on these comparisons, and who inspires you the most musically?
Dailla: It truly means a lot to be mentioned alongside artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift. They possess an incredible gift for transforming personal experiences into songs that feel universal, raw, and emotional, yet still catchy. I have always admired their bravery to be vulnerable while making music that resonates broadly. For me, it all started with classic rock bands like U2, whose emotional depth significantly influenced me while growing up. Over time, I found inspiration in artists like Nieve Ella and Eileen Alister, who bring honesty into modern sounds in a truly authentic way. Ultimately, what connects all my influences is emotional truth — music that communicates something real, whether bold or intimate. That’s what I strive to create as well.

How do you begin the songwriting process for a new track? Do you follow a specific routine?
Dailla: I don’t adhere to a strict formula when I write songs; it usually starts with a feeling I don’t fully understand yet. Sometimes I pick up the guitar or sit at the piano and let whatever happens happen. Other times,
