“You leave the light on… You keep the light on with the water in the pot…” The kettle hums while the candle burns, embodying the weight of what remains. It’s a whisper that carries the intensity of a shout — a moment of humanity at its most raw and genuine. Soft Loft’s Modern Roses resides in those in-between moments — the space between holding on and letting go, between words spoken and true intentions, between who we were and who we’re becoming. This record creates a sanctuary for the beauty and sorrow of human connection. It embodies memory, reflection, and desire — the love that resonates long after saying goodbye.

Soft Loft’s latest EP is an intimate, emotionally charged dreamscape — gentle yet bold, woven with warmth and vulnerability, featuring shimmering melodies and poignant lyrics. Released in late April through [PIAS] and self-produced by the band, Modern Roses explores the emotional terrain we traverse in our quest for closeness: the joy of love, the pain of separation, and the tension of holding on versus letting go. These songs not only capture sacred moments; they breathe life into the ambiguous spaces of relationships and the silence that exists between us. Evocative and radiant, this EP is a softly stirring triumph — a fearless expression of feeling in all its messy, magnificent forms.

Soft Loft is a Swiss indie pop band that resonates with tenderness, tension, and a quiet kind of bravery. The five-member group — consisting of Jorina Stamm (vocals/guitar), Lukas Kuprecht (drums), Marius Meier (bass), Sarina Schmid (keyboards), and Simon Boss (guitar) — first gained recognition with their self-released debut LP The Party and the Mess in 2023, a dreamy, diary-like experience produced by Grammy-nominated Gianluca Buccellati. Without a record label or promotional campaign, the EP made its way to KEXP and the NACC charts, setting the stage for a breakout year filled with international festival appearances and sold-out shows.

“We still love it, but it’s challenging,” frontwoman Jorina Stamm reflects on their debut. “We discuss it often… We’re excited to release new music to showcase what we’re doing now. We’re going back to the studio next week, so everything is coming together… Yet, that first album remains very special to us. We have wonderful memories from working with our producer, and it served as the launchpad! Starting the project with that album felt particularly significant.”

Now signed to [PIAS], the band returns not only with momentum but also with purpose — Modern Roses represents a pivotal moment, solidifying Soft Loft’s presence as both emotionally resonant and artistically unique.

Despite its seamless sound, the EP's core lies in spontaneity and surrender. “We recorded it two years ago,” Stamm shares. “Right after our first album, we dove back into the studio to create these six songs, and it felt liberating.” With their debut already released, they embraced experimentation. “With music out there, and people familiar with our work, we felt freer to try new things. It was a fantastic experience. We handled everything ourselves, and it was incredibly enjoyable.”

Stamm adds, “We didn’t have a specific vision. It was simply about capturing our current experiences — experimenting and playing music.” There was no cohesive concept or narrative — just glimpses of life and emotion crafted into song. “It’s six stories from my life, compiled into an EP.”

This laid-back approach became a strength. Tracks like “Le Parfait” emerged organically and unrefined. “It started as a sketch, and we decided to keep it,” Stamm recalls. “We attempted to re-record it, but couldn’t replicate the essence, so we released the demo version instead. We were free to say, ‘This is what it is.’” That instinct to trust the moment is what imparts Modern Roses its magnetic warmth: it prioritizes emotion over polish.

The EP’s name itself reflects this intention and openness. “It originated from a line in the song ‘Paper Plane,’ which states, ‘Modern roses are paper planes,’” Stamm notes. “In ‘Paper Plane,’ the narrative considers what modern expressions of affection might resemble. We thought, what if our songs represent modern roses too? They’re contemporary symbols of sharing affection or revealing something personal about ourselves.”

Each of the six tracks in Modern Roses functions as a small gesture — a hand extended, a heart bared, a thought
