Dave Rowntree will showcase the formative years of Blur in a new photo book.

The affable drummer of Blur is involved in various activities, including politics, law, and astronomy. Additionally, Dave Rowntree is an enthusiastic amateur photographer, and he is compiling a hardback book that will present some personal images from Blur’s ascent.

Scheduled for release on September 9th through independent publisher Hero (part of the Legend Times Group), this over 200-page hardback will provide an insight into the beginnings of this iconic band's career.

Titled No One You Know: Dave Rowntree’s Early Blur Photos, this endeavor is a true labor of love and is edited by journalist, author, and broadcaster Miranda Sawyer.

Captured through the lens of his Olympus OM-10, the book reflects on their initial albums, explosive live performances, encounters with fans, and more. Dave Rowntree remarks...

The images I captured depict a band in the very early stages of their career. They illustrate what we did in between gigs, interviews, and photo shoots. They show us hanging out, relaxing, traveling, eating, and especially in the early days, enjoying drinks. They are snapshots of what life in Blur was truly like during those first few years when the cameras and recording devices were off.

Naturally, there isn't much footage of the band actually working, as I would have been working too at that time.

      This captures everything else.

The book is now available for pre-order HERE (the artist’s edition includes exclusive postcard photo prints). Dave will be signing copies at Rough Trade Denmark St on September 10th. Check here for details on Rough Trade pre-orders and the event.
