Kokoroko has released a new single titled ‘Closer To Me.’

The London-based group is often viewed through the lens of their lasting interest in afrobeat and highlife, but in reality, Kokoroko’s music is far more nuanced and complex than that label might imply.

Their new album, ‘Tuff Times Never Last,’ will be released on July 11th and has a much wider scope compared to their previous projects, while still staying true to their essence.

Produced by Miles James, the latest single ‘Closer To Me’ features a relaxed groove, with intricate horns showcasing a neo-soul feel, and the laid-back beat evokes the peak era of Common.

Co-bandleader Onome Edgeworth shares: “‘Closer To Me’ is, at its heart, a hip-hop record. While it lacks rapping, the drums, sampling, and overall vibe are very much hip-hop, reminiscent of the old Common albums.”

      Tune in now.

Catch Kokoroko live at O2 Academy Brixton, London, on September 25th.
